The Hanged Man ( XII )
A young man is hung by one of his heel. This one does not seem to suffer from his position. The symbol of the fulfillment of the Great Work of Alchemy, an upside down triangle with a cross, is stylized with the shape of his crossed legs and his back arms. The character has his hands tied behind his back to prevent his freeing himself and acting. The path taken by the hanged man offers no hope of return. The true intuition is certainty Knowledge is not obtained by the active study as in the West where prevails the omnipotent reason and stifles the Intuitive part of ourselves. At this stage the person enters into a new world of sensations and perceptions which are different but no less real.
Meanings : Sacrifice of the body or spirit, gift of self, faith. "The hanged man represents passive initiation, much like Eastern mystics who waiting enlightenment by standing still for hours in meditation."
